Workshop 3: Montage-it!

Conceptual Model

The artist that I chose to take my inspiration from for my conceptual model was Edward Hopper. I chose his painting, 'Car Chair (1965)', and from that, I did a conceptual sketch to stimulate various ideas.

My interpretation of the painting was;

  • The interior space shown in the painting looks like a train or some sort of vehicle.
  • However, this vehicle does not appear to be moving but is rather stationary. This could be due to the fact that the chairs are similar to those used within homes and not in public transport.
  • It could also be influenced by the fact that the exterior is not visible through the  windows. Only light is passing through the windows.
  • Hence, my model had to portray both concepts of movement and stillness.
